About Off-Campus Housing Near Hult International Business School

Hult International Business School's Boston campus is in East Cambridge, Massachusetts, on the Education Street area near Lechmere and a short walk from Kendall Square, MIT, and the Charles River. Hult is a private business school with campuses around the world, and its student body is unusually international. The Boston campus has both undergraduates and graduate students in master's and MBA programs. Hult runs its own residence, Hult House, at 10 Education Circle just steps from its campus buildings, home to over 400 students, with dorm-style rooms for first-year undergrads and studio and one-bedroom apartments for returning undergrads and grad students. Beyond that, you're in the Cambridge and Somerville rental market, which is one of the most expensive and competitive in the country, driven by MIT, Harvard, and the Kendall biotech scene. Nearly everything turns over on September 1, and the best places go months ahead. Transit is excellent. The Green Line's Lechmere station is right by campus, the Green Line Extension runs into Somerville, and the Red Line at Kendall/MIT is a short walk, so most students don't need a car. Massachusetts renter protections apply, which helps a lot for international students unfamiliar with the market.

Hult International Business School Housing Requirements

Freshman Live-On Requirement

Yes. Hult requires first-year undergraduate students to live on campus in a dorm-style unit at Hult House, next to the Boston campus. Contact Hult's housing team about any exceptions. Graduate students don't have a live-on requirement, but they can apply for Hult House apartments, which are first come, first served.

Off-Campus Eligibility

After first year, undergrads can move off campus or stay in Hult House apartments, which are open to returning undergrads and grad students. Many grad students rent in Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston. If you're an international student, give yourself extra time, since landlords often ask for a U.S. guarantor or extra documentation. Undergrads who stay in Hult House after first year get the shortest commute possible.

Lease Timing

Most Cambridge and Somerville leases run 12 months and start September 1. In Massachusetts, a landlord can only collect first month's rent, last month's rent, a security deposit of no more than one month's rent, and a lock-change fee up front. Since August 1, 2025, whoever hires the broker pays the broker fee.

Housing policies change frequently. Always verify current requirements directly with Hult International Business School before signing a lease.

When to Start Looking for Housing Near Hult International Business School

Early Searchers

If you want a Hult House apartment, reserve as early as you can, since they go first come, first served. For private rentals starting September 1, serious searching in Cambridge and Somerville starts in February and March. Early signers get the best choice of location and price. International students should also plan for time to set up a U.S. bank account and phone number, since landlords often ask for both.

Peak Demand Window

April through June is the crunch, when MIT, Harvard, and Kendall-area professionals are all looking. Be ready to apply the day you tour with proof of income or a guarantor, and don't be surprised by competing applications. Many landlords want proof of income, a credit check, or a guarantor, and international students may be asked for extra documentation.

Last-Minute Options

If you're still looking in July or August, focus on rooms in existing shared apartments and sublets. Widen your search along the Green Line into Somerville and Medford, or along the Orange Line into Charlestown. Never send a deposit for a place you haven't seen or verified. Short-term furnished rooms can bridge you until a better lease comes along. Some grad students start with a short-term room and find a longer lease once they know the city.
